The Odd Couple
CASTING PLAN
Thursday, September 13, 2012

Thanks and congratulations for the excellent audition work.  You made our job difficult, which is just the way we like it.

Please INITIAL by your name to accept your role assignment.  Hard copies of the notice will be posted on the theatre door, and on the STAGE callboard in the music hallway.

If for any reason you will not accept your role, please inform me ASAP in writing or in person.  Any personnel change will require us to do some shuffling.

If we were not able to assign you a cast position at this time, please consider working on the other aspects of the production as much as your schedule allows.  The first general stage crew organizational meeting will be TUESDAY September 18 at 2:20 in the auditorium.

If any changes to the cast are needed, we’ll notify you personally if an onstage spot for you develops – and that does happen once in a while!

UNDERSTUDIES have not been assigned particular tracks yet – we will discuss an action plan for understudies at the first set of readthroughs.  Plan to come to the readthrough matching your gender – guys to the male show, girls to the female.  If you can come to both, please do.

CAST – you should come to the readthrough of the show you’ve been assigned to but you are welcome to come to the other one as well.

CREW CHIEFS – you should attend both if you can, to get a sense of the difference between the two.  You will be creating two separate prompt books.

The MALE VERSION readthrough is Thursday (today), September 13 at 2:30.  Plan to stay until 5pm to give us time to read the whole script.

The FEMALE VERSION readthrough is Friday (tomorrow), September 14 at 2:30.  .  Plan to stay until 5pm to give us time to read the whole script.

All casting and work assignments are based on the completion of all paperwork – application, contract and resume – by TUESDAY, September 18.  All CONFLICTS should be entered into VSM by that time as well.

Positions that are open (TBD, or To Be Determined – you’ll have the opportunity to interview for those positions.  Let me know if you are interested in any of them.

Once again, thank you for the work and effort you’ve put in to the audition process.

ODD COUPLE AUDITION UPDATE
I NEED ONE MORE SHORT AUDITION SESSION TOMORROW!

Sorry folks, but we are not quite ready to post a final list – we have a little more info that we need from a few people.  So I am asking for the following people to come to another audition Wednesday after school – 2:20 until 3:00 or so.

Kira Appelman
Michiko Feehan
Diana Garcia-Mejia
Quiana Jewell
Abigail Kullberg
AJ Modica (absent  from callback Tuesday night)
Vidya Shaker
Anna Toretsky

Everyone else – I know it’s cruel, but we are asking you to wait a little longer for the final list – we want to get it right, and this extra session will help us do that.  The final list will go up tomorrow night, some time after back to school night.

Remember, male cast meets Thursday, female cast meets Friday – and crew chiefs come both days!

Casting Notice

Thanks again for a terrific set of auditions – the energy, enthusiasm and spirit you show will help us create another great Einstein show! Before (or after) you dash down to find if your name appears, please take note of these important bits of housekeeping:

  • There is a signature line next to the names – sign there by your name to accept your role. Sign either the list on the auditorium door or the one on the theatre callboard in the music hall.
  • If you are NOT cast at this time, have a little patience and a spot might open up a little later on down the line – especially after report cards come out!
  • All assignments are tentative pending payment of ECA fees, continued good grades and others factors that might come up. If you have NOT paid your ECA fee see me immediately. You will not be permitted at rehearsal after break until it is paid.
  • Roles that featured shared casting – with the exception of the Man in Chair, shared role performers are responsible only for the principal character track - you’ll be “off” the days you aren’t performing your role. The actors sharing the Man in Chair are also sharing an ensemble track – that’s so we don’t lose an extra male voice in the ensemble.
  • Any paperwork (resume and contract) that is not complete needs to be turned in ASAP, preferably before the break but definitely by the first day back, January 3. . Also, complete all your info on VSM, including phone numbers, addresses, and updated bio if you haven’t yet. All cast members have VSM accounts – new crew members, see me about setting one up for yourself.
  • CONFLICTS should be entered into the system by December 31. Enter any confirmed conflict for any event between 2:30 and 10pm on school days and 9am – 3pm Saturday. No conflicts may be entered for dates after March 1.
  • There are no specific ensemble assignments yet – that will develop as we se what we’ve got and how we want to use the performers.
  • We will meet at 2:15 today, Thursday, December 22 for the first read-through with the cast album. This is always a fun experience – plan to stay for the whole reading – it’s a short show so we should be able to finish by about 4:30, 5 at latest..
  • This year ALL players will be getting books. do not write in them except light pencil marks. You are responsible for the replacement cost if lost or damaged - $25.00.
  • EVERYONE will get a RehearseScore disc that you can load into your computer at home – it will help you to learn your parts by providing a note-perfect accompaniment and practice track. Expect to get your copy after the break.
  • CREW CHIEF personnel are expected at the readthrough. Note the available slots that we have at this time (some might have already been filled – just ask). If you want one of those jobs, make sure your paperwork is in and talk to me about the job you are interested in.
  • Available crew chief positions may be filled by cast members depending on the nature of the job and the student’s position within the cast. Assistant Directors should not have a stage role, or should have a role that allows for significant time off stage..
  • Depending on the available talent, UNDERSTUDIES will be assigned for each principal role that is not shared, and will fill in as needed during the rehearsal process.

CASTING ASSIGNMENT AS OF DECEMBER 22, 2011

List is alphabetical by character or work assignment name.

*All crew chief assignments pending approval of technical/artistic staff and successful completion of paperwork. Let me know if you are interested in one of the available positions.

CASTING UNDER CONSTRUCTION

Folks, thank you for the terrific auditions just concluded. I am now in the process of shaking things out and finalizing a list. Before I do, though, here are some things you might want to know...
Normally I do not go in for the concept of double casting - putting more than one person in a role. This year, however, double casting appears to be the way to go in order to provide roles and continue to grow the program as our large group of seniors get ready to leave us.
I have approached Mr. Fernandez about the possibility of doing an invited performance for middle school students, during the school day - and he enthusiastically supported that. So the developing plan is to add TWO more performances - one middle school performance during the school day, and one weekend matinee. This would give us six performances - the performances might be shared 3-3, or might be split 4-2, depending on how the final cast makeup of the show develops.
Most of the shared casting will be in female roles because of the larger number of girls. I would expect the partners to work together to forge the role, but be able to keep the role unique to their own style. Some roles that feature more complicated dancing or specialized vocal needs will not be shared.
Most performers who work in a shared role will not appear on stage during the performances featuring their partner. This will better enable us to simply "plug in" actors to spots on stage and not lose valuable rehearsal time.
So when you do finally take a look at the cast list, look carefully to see if you've been assigned to share work with another.
You'll receive another message when the cast list is complete.
